S ciljem promocije stranim posjetiteljima koji trenutno borave u gradu Osijeku na Sveučilišnom nogometnom prvenstvu i događaju Get together u organizaciji IAESTE, a u suradnji s organizatorima, donosimo vam kratki tekst o prekrasnom gradu na Dravi.

Osijek is located at only 20 km from the mouth of the Drava and the Danube. In this part of the European Danube region, Croatia meets the old Austro-Hungarian heritage you will first notice in its architecture and rich traditions and gastronomy. For your first visit, we recommend Tvrđa, a fortified part of the city from the 18th century where you will see some of the most valuable examples of Baroque architecture in Croatia, such as the votive statue of the Holy Trinity and General-barracks, known well from the 200 kunas banknote.

Passing through the large belt of parks and gardens (Osijek has 17 parks) you will enter in secession quarter with monumental public and private buildings such as palaces galleries, courts and post office. A road to the main square takes you along the Drava River, and an easy walk along the promenade you will come to the con-Cathedral, Peter and Paul. Completed in 1898th with its 90 meter high tower is now the tallest building in Osijek, and the second highest church in Croatia, central and southern Danube region.

A walk up the river promenade takes you to the lookout point over the Drava and "comp" scaffolding that will transfere you to the left bank of the river to the Zoo. Nice view of the entire city stretches to pedestrian bridge where, if you take a moment, you can leave your love padlock and always coming back to Osijek full of love.

After the walk, relax on one of the many terraces on the promenade with coffee, cake and beer, which Osijek is proud of preparing since 1697th. Fun fact is that black radler beer is prepared only in Osijek. So, do you need more reasons to taste it when summer days reach the highest temperature?!

Among the many city events throughout the year, we recommend that you need to visit the Pannonian Challenge, festival of extreme sports cycling, rock and urban music in mid-August, the Earth without borders - children's Festival in late August, Days of first Croatian beer - beer festival in Osijek in mid-September. Throughout whole year you can visit antiques fair in the old part, Tvrđa, every first Saturday in every month.
